Went to Ramen Futaba in Aomori City for lunch today. Asked for a regular bowl of Shio (Salt) Ramen there. The broth is yakiniboshi (roasted dried fish) basedーthe formula particular to Aomori. Like it.

Today is my kyukanbi (休肝日), a day when I don’t drink alcohol in order to keep my liver in good condition. Went to a Manhachi Ramen restaurant in Aomori City and ordered “Subuta (sweet-and-sour pork) Set.” The Manhachi Ramen chain originated in Aomori Prefecture.

Took a bath at an onsen hot spring facility in Aomori city called Yuttara Onsen today. Aomori gets a lot of snow in winter, and that limits the options of people’s amusement. So it is common for people in Aomori to bathe and warm themselves up while the sun is still high. People tend to keep early hours because they need to prepare for yuki-oroshi (or snow removal) which might be required the next morning.

Had dinner at home today with sashimi of scallop from Hokkaido and sake. My choice of sake tonight was a local brand in the Shimokita district called Kaikyo Roman (which means something like “Strait Dream”). Like it.

My dinner at home today. The main dish was grilled aburazame, or North Pacific spiny dogfish. This fish is commonly sold in supermarkets in Aomori and Hokkaido. Ate it with beer. Like it.

My dinner at home today. Drank canned beer with grilled hokke with salt. Hokke is a kind of mackerel and is often harvested in north seas around Hokkaido.

Visited Chukasoba Ichifuji in Aomori City. Got their Backfat Niboshi Ramen. I felt the niboshi flavour is making the backfat-broth lighter and milder. Like it.
