This is the Tokyo Station building on its Marunouchi side. Originally built in 1914, its old redbrick facade is beautiful.
This is the GranTokyo North Tower on the Yaesu side of Tokyo Station. A Daimaru department store occupies its lower floors. These two photos were taken at the same shooting-point. I wanted to see how different the landscape is between the day and night. Interesting, isn’t it?

Visited Kudo Ramen in Aomori City. Asked for the tokudai, or extra large serving, of Kudo Ramen. They use the thin noodles and broth extracted from niboshi dried fish. Like it.
■ As of June 2022, this ramen shop is still operating in Aomori City but not in the same place. They moved its location in 2019 to a place near Aomori Prefectural Office.

Made a visit to an outlet of Ramen Sanpachi in Aomori City at night. Ordered their “Miso Ramen and Gyoza Set”. The size of the donburi bowl was extra large. Rarmen Sanpachi originated in Sapporo, Hokkaido. The name of the shop came from the fact the founder was 38 years old when he first started this business. (Three is san, and eight is hachi, in Japanese.)

Went to buy some asakusa-yaki today. It is a Japanese traditional confection with sweet bean paste in it. This food is found in many parts of Japan, but with various different names, including imagawa-yaki and oban-yaki. Asakusa-yaki has been popular in Aomori for many years and it is sometimes called “Aomori’s soul food.”

I was in Hirosaki City today. Approximately a one-hour drive from the center of Aomori City. Had the Niboshi Chuka Soba at Takahashi Chuka Soba Shop. The taste was GOOD! Everywhere in Aomori Prefecture, we can have niboshi (dried fish) based ramen because they are very popular here.

Went to see tundra swans on the Asadokoro shore in the Natsudomari Peninsula, Aomori Prefecture. Swans come to this place from Siberia around mid-October and stay here until the end of March. Being less than one hour by car from downtown Aomori City, many people visit this area. After seeing them, I moved to the northern tip of the peninsula and explored Oshima Island. This small island is linked to the main land through a footbridge.

I was in Mutsu City today. Located in the Shimokita Peninsula in Aomori Prefecture, it is the northernmost city on Japan’s Honshu main island. At lunchtime, I visited a ramen shop called Kita no Kazoku and ate their Mutsu-wan Ramen in the soy source flavor. It was a bit of fresh surprise: many ramen we usually eat in Aomori are served with niboshi-based broth but this ramen wasn’t. Like it.

Visited Hachinohe City today. It is the second largest city in Aomori Prefecture, located on the east coast, facing the Pacific Ocean. Took about one hour and 40 minutes by car from Aomori City. Chanced upon a ramen shop called Shiode and had their regular bowl of Shina Soba there. Like it. Shina is an old Japanese term expressing China. Soba basically refers to Japanese traditional buckwheat noodles, but in this case, the word only signifies “noodles.” In a nut shell, shinasoba is equal to ramen, just a slightly old-fashioned way of expressing it.
